Only 3 weeks to go til the next Welsh elections and .... and nothing.
Local government elections rarely set the political pulse racing and this one seems poised to be even flatter than ever before. So much for a verdict on the 'One Wales' coalition, Gordon Brown's premiership and all the other things the media likes to read into the results.
Typically few people bother to turn out and this year looks no better than previous elections. But I happen to care a great deal about where I live. So, here are 10 reasons why I will be voting on 1st May:
1. Because I want my children to have an education that inspires them as well as teaching them to read and write.
2. Because I want the town where I live to be vibrant, attractive, safe and with lots to do.
3. Because I want to be safe if I walk or cycle (and for people who use wheelchairs to be able to get about) and I curse the priority always given to drivers.
4. Because I am fed up with the swimming pools and libraries in the town closing at 1pm on a Saturday - don't they realise some of us have jobs? And no Mr Librarian who answered my complaint, I can't come to your Thursday late night opening because there are NO BUSES in the evening!!
5. because I like the kerbside recycling the council provides.
6. Because I am outraged at the opencast mining going on just yards from houses and a school.
7. Because I am weary of the Council's complacent, arrogant and outdated attitudes.
8. Because I want the children of the area to be served healthy food not putrid meat from the cheapest supplier.
9. Because I want to see the town's history conserved and celebrated not demolished and belittled.
10. Because Emily Davison (pictured) died for the right to vote.
Will any party credibly deliver all this? Well, we'll see (though I am not holding my breath). But what this list does do is remind me why it IS important to vote.
Watch this space.

Here is a reason why I will not be voting, because if i had to vote the only party left for me are the BNP. New Labour are now more Thtacherite then Thatcher, the Tories well are the Tories, Plaid are the new Labour party, Lib Dem's well lets not bother with that bunch of wallies leaving me the BNP.
I did have a knock on the door Labour first, we are doing more for the disabled like your self, we will ensure your removed out of poverty by finding you a job, but your not finding us work, just a lower benefit.
Plaid we are the New Labour party, "pardon" we are the new socialist party.
Lib Dem's they do not bother in my area to poor.
The BNP took twenty minutes to hit the nail on the head, we will ensure if your disabled a job is found for you, if your to disabled we will ensure your looked after, we will make sure communities are more about local people then immigrants.
Yes yes yes, sadly no I hate racists. otherwise I'd vote for you.
Because I am weary of the Council's complacent, arrogant and outdated attitudes.
quite agree and this could be applied to all parties at all levels of Government here in Wales.
Until they change the system we will end up with same people re-elected time after time putting their own needs before the local community.
I will vote and would encourgae everyone to do so
If yuo want change then you have to vote in new people I will be looking for teh calibre of those standing, not politics because that seems to merge when they get in.
I so hope there will be an anti opencast candidate.
