Welfare to where?

I see Rhodri Morgan is saying (in today's Western Mail) that helping people into jobs is 'a key objective' of his and Ieuan Wyn Jones' government. I agree - getting people into work is the best route out of poverty.

Strange that this priority is an area of government that is not devolved and over which Morgan and Jones Ltd have no control.

What is more urgent is making sure that the people of Wales are not penalised when the draconian reforms come into effect in the autumn - by providing childcare, better occupational health, public transport so people can get to jobs, not to mention creating jobs themselves. Otherwise it won't be welfare to work it iwll be welfare to .... nowhere.

nice words from Rhodri, but why wasn't he concerned about this when he took over as Welsh Labour leader and First Minister and why no probing questions at Amazon yesterday, all far to much congratulations and back slapping from the welsh press.

I've applied to Amazon, B&Q Morrison's Carpet right, so far 120 applications have gone in to the new shops which are opening round Trostre and Pemberton in Llanelli. I was on TV the bloke from Llanelli on the Week in Week out talking to that American Twit.

The fact is if your disabled like myself, the chance of getting work is zero. Now before you jump on me, you tell me. A job comes up you need to have a highly qualified person, three people turn up, a disabled bloke who has problems with his legs, his bladder bowel and takes morphine to control pain. A bloke turns up who has not worked for twenty years because he has a serious drink and drugs problems, and a Polish bloke who is fit health and wants the job, who do you give it to. Yes the disabled bloke because you feel sorry for him.

The fact is nobody wants to hire a problem, yes I've had an offer of a job, to hand out leaflets at Town about disability equipment two weeks work. then what I'd have to re-apply for benefits.

I get Incapacity benefits I had to see three doctors to get that, DLA, I had to see two doctors to get that, god I'm disabled
